Australia-based hot springs operator Peninsula Hot Springs Group has announced the launch of its fourth site in Cunnamulla, Queensland
The project came to fruition following an AUS$11.7 million investment supplied by Australia’s federal government and Queensland’s state government
The remote new location features a host of facilities including seven open-air geothermal mineral pools, a cold plunge pool, a sauna, a steamroom and more
Programming is anchored by self-guided wellness experiences including clay rituals, salt scrubs and contrast bathing therapy
Australia’s iconic bathing destination Peninsula Hot Springs in Victoria has announced the arrival of its brand new sister site in Cunnamulla, southwest Queensland.

Designed as a remote desert oasis in the outback, Cunnamulla Hot Springs is owned by the local council and marks the fourth site operated by Peninsula Hot Springs Group (PHS) – founded by Charles Davidson in 2005.

Overlooking the Warrego River, the newly built site flows with the area’s mineral-rich geothermal waters and was designed by Cox Architects.

The property was realised following an AUD$11.7 million (€7.1 million, £6.1 million, US$7.6 million) investment funded by Australia’s federal government and Queensland’s state government.

Cunnamulla's facilities include seven open-air geothermal mineral pools (ranging from 36-40C), a cold plunge pool, a sauna and a steamroom, as well as indoor showers, a relaxation area, changing rooms, picnic areas and a small canteen.

Programming is anchored by self-guided wellness experiences including clay rituals, salt scrubs and hot and cold therapy. Guests can also explore the local area and immerse themselves in nature using the site’s walking trails.

PHS told Spa Business it has also purchased the local theatre next to the hot springs, which will become a cultural hub with art exhibitions, films and performances.

Davidson said: “Cunnamulla Hot Springs is located in one of the most remote destinations in one of the least populated countries in the world. We want guests to connect with the outback, the local indigenous communities and most importantly, the water; the mineral-rich, artesian water that is found at Cunnamulla.

“Our hope is that Cunnamulla Hot Springs will create a sense of community by embracing the land, culture and wellbeing – as the Mornington Peninsula did when it opened, over 18 years ago.”

The new opening is designed for all ages. A two-hour day pass costs AUD$45 (€27, £23, US$29) for adults and AUD$25 (€15, £12, US$16) for children aged 3-15 years old.

Cunnamulla is just one of a host of new hot springs destinations opening up around the globe – read more about all the latest hot springs international developments in Spa Business.
