After two years of planning and an investment of £750,000, health and fitness operator, Cannons, has opened the doors of its in-house training centre. The Cannons Academy will become the group's 'central hub of knowledge, inspiration and innovation' at its Surrey headquarters. Comprising a fully equipped gym, learning studio and presentation rooms, the Cannons Academy is the focus for extensive staff training and development and the launch of new product initiatives. Headed up by Ian Mahoney, the academy answers industry concerns about the level of staff expertise on the gym floor, as Cannons employees will be trained to advise members on exercise initiatives, weight management and nutrition, with confidence and backed by expert knowledge. Cannons managing director, Martin Oliver, says the centre will boost standards in the industry: Through the Cannons Academy, we will research and develop new initiatives, implement best practices from across the industry and deliver these to our members with a consistently high standard of knowledge and service.
